İskenderun City Guide

İskenderun is located on the eastern Mediterranean coast on the Gulf of İskenderun, at the foot of the Nur Mountains.

This is one of the few still-existing cities in the world which was founded by, and indeed gets its name from Alexander the Great, with Alexandria in Egypt being the other notable example.

İskenderun is an industrialized city, surrounded by petrochemical plants and steelworks, although the city centre is still enjoyable with its lovely palm-lined promenade on the shore of the sea.

İskenderun, historically known as Alexandretta and Scanderoon, is a city and district in Hatay Province on the Mediterranean coast of Turkey.
