Çanakkale Vacation Guide

Çanakkale is an important city and seaport. It lies on the southern shore of the Dardanelles at its narrowest point, which makes it the nearest major urban centre to Troy, along with the Troad region.

Visitors can see the wooden horse from the 2004 movie Troy on the waterfront. People visit the city primarily to explore the ruins of Troy and to visit the WWI cemeteries in Gallipoli.

Every year, during the commemoration of ANZAC Day on 18 March and 25 April, the city becomes packed with tourists and hotel rooms become scarce.

Çanakkale Airport is 3 km away from the city center and both AnadoluJet and Borajet provide daily flights from Istanbul and Ankara.

Additionally, intercity buses can take travelers to Bursa, Istanbul and Izmir.
