Mykonos Island

Mykonos is renowned amongst the Greek islands as a vibrant cosmopolitan destination and one of the most popular travel meccas.

With this, visitors should expect to find overpriced merchandise, hearty ‘English’ breakfasts with eggs, bacon and a few rolls, and raucous dance clubs in certain areas.

Compared to other Greek islands, Mykonos, alongside Santorini, is rather costly. It becomes exceptionally busy during the months of July and August, and it’s therefore advised to travel during early season (mid-May to June), where accommodation is more reasonable and the weather not so hot, or post season (September to mid-October).

It’s essential to be aware that the low season or mid-season on Mykonos has many (or even most) of the bars, restaurants, resorts, clubs and stores closed until the following spring, with only a select few remaining open, and public transportation restricted to many of the outlying beaches without personal transportation.

Of all the leading gay holiday destinations in Europe, including Ibiza, Gran Canaria, and Sitges, Mykonos stands out for its characteristic charm.

The most renowned beaches for gay tourists are Super Paradise and Elia, even though they’re not officially gay beaches, hosting some sections for gay people. The only true gay beach is the little stretch between Elia and Agrari.
