The weather is typically mild and rainy during the winters, while summers are hot and dry. Interestingly, the terrain in the north is mountainous, while the central plain is hot and dry.
As you move towards the south, the weather becomes semiarid and merges with the Sahara. The landscape is dotted with a series of salt lakes called chotts or shatts.
These salt lakes extend from the Gulf of Gabes into Algeria, creating a mesmerizing sight. The country also has some notable high and low points.
The lowest point is Chott el Djerid at 17 meters below sea level while the highest point is Jebel ech Chambi at 1,544 meters.
