With a comprehensive network of bus, tram, and trolleybus lines spanning a whopping 193 kilometers, public transportation in Sofia is easily accessible in all areas of the city.

To further enhance the transportation infrastructure, the Sofia Metro was introduced in January 1998, initially with just five stations. However, the metro system has come a long way since then, expanding its reach and convenience. Currently, Sofia Metro proudly operates four lines and serves commuters with an extensive network of 47 stations.

As of 2022, the Sofia Metro system has an impressive 52 kilometers of track, providing commuters with a reliable and efficient mode of transportation. Over the years, the metro system has undergone significant expansion, with the addition of new stations to cater to the growing needs of the city.

In 2009, six new metro stations were opened, followed by two more in April 2012, and an impressive eleven additional stations in August 2012.

To further extend the reach of the metro, in 2015, seven new stations were opened, connecting the underground network to key locations such as Sofia Airport on its Northern branch and Business Park Sofia on its Southern branch.

Continuing its commitment to providing excellent transport facilities, the city opened the Vitosha Metro Station in July 2016 on the M2 main line. This station played a crucial role in further streamlining the metro network, ensuring that commuters have easy access to important destinations.
