Dubai has a modern and integrated transport system that includes roads, metro, tram, buses, water taxis and more. The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) is the government agency responsible for developing and managing the transport network in Dubai.
One of the landmark projects of the RTA is the Dubai Metro, which opened in 2009 as the world’s longest driverless metro system. The metro has two lines: the Red Line and the Green Line, which cover a total distance of 75 km and serve 49 stations. The metro connects major destinations such as Dubai International Airport, Burj Khalifa, Dubai Mall, Mall of the Emirates and Dubai Marina.
Another innovative project of the RTA is the Dubai Tram, which started operating in 2014 as the first tramway in the Middle East. The tram runs along a 10.6 km route that serves 11 stations in Al Sufouh, Dubai Marina and Jumeirah Beach Residence. The tram is integrated with the metro and the monorail systems, and offers a convenient and comfortable mode of transport for residents and tourists.
The RTA also operates a large fleet of buses that cover more than 80% of Dubai’s urban area. The buses are air-conditioned, wheelchair-accessible and equipped with smart services such as free Wi-Fi and online payment.
The RTA has built several bus stations and shelters across the city to enhance the accessibility and comfort of bus users. The RTA also offers intercity bus services that connect Dubai with other emirates such as Abu Dhabi, Sharjah and Fujairah.
For those who prefer to travel by water, Dubai has a variety of marine transport options that include water taxis, water buses, abras (traditional wooden boats) and ferries.
Dubai has a remarkable transportation infrastructure that meets the needs and expectations of its diverse population and visitors.
