History of Singapore

The intriguing history of Singapore spans back to ancient times when it was known as Savana and Pu Luo Chung in Greek and Chinese texts, respectively, in the second and third centuries.

This ancient city was once a bustling trading center for both the Melaka Sultanate and the Johor Sultanate, however, it faced destruction at the hands of Portuguese raiders.

Despite facing setbacks, Singapore’s history continued to explore new horizons.

In 1819, Sir Thomas Stamford Raffles made a deal with a claimant to the throne of the Sultanate of Johor, and thus began the tale of modern-day Singapore.

From its ancient city roots to its current status as a bustling country, Singapore has a rich and diverse history that is worth exploring.
