Wellington Vacation Guide

With a range of options available, including electric and diesel buses, commuter trains, ferries, and a funicular, it has become the most frequently used public transportation system in the country.

Buses and ferries are privately owned, but the infrastructure is owned by public bodies, and with public transport often being subsidised, it makes it affordable for everyone.

The Greater Wellington Regional Council is the driving force behind the planning and subsidising of public transportation, and they pay around NZ$30 million each year for bus and train services.

Known as Metlink, the public transport system covers Wellington City, Lower Hutt, Upper Hutt, Porirua, and more.

With a rail network, tram facilities, buses, and a metro system, the transportation system in Wellington has become one of the most efficient and reliable in the country.
