Private cars, buses, taxis, and light rail are the most popular modes of transportation for traveling within the city. The light rail system, which has been recently introduced, is a fantastic addition to the public transport system and has been widely appreciated by the people of Canberra.
In addition to these, rail, air, and long-distance coach services are available for people who want to travel beyond the city limits. The rail network is well established and connects Canberra to other major cities in Australia. Air travel is another popular mode of transport for people who want to travel to far-off destinations.
The vast road network of Canberra also plays a major role in transportation both within the city and beyond. It connects Canberra with neighboring cities and states, making it easier for people to travel to different parts of the country.
To streamline the public transport system and make it more efficient, Transport Canberra, a division of Transport Canberra & City Services, was formed on 1 July 2016.
This division manages all public transport operations within the Australian Capital Territory, including ACTION bus services and light rail planning and construction, which were previously managed by the Capital Metro Agency.
With such efficient and well-organized transport systems, Canberra ensures easy and convenient travel for all its residents and visitors alike.
