This Roman Catholic minor basilica is dedicated to the Blessed Virgin Mary and has been an important landmark in the area since its construction in 1926. What’s more, this church is not just any ordinary building, it’s an awe-inspiring work of art that showcases remarkable architectural details.

Located in the charming village of El Cobre, which is about 12 miles away from Santiago de Cuba, the church can be found on the hill “Cerro de la Cantera”. To reach this glorious cathedral, one must climb a flight of 254 steps that connects the church to the village – a journey that is well worth the effort.

The basilica boasts three impressive aisles and a spectacular central bell tower, which is a true masterpiece of engineering and design. On either side of the bell tower are two magnificent towers, each crowned with a stunning red-brick dome.
