Founded in 1876, this cemetery was built in the Vedado neighbourhood of Havana, Cuba to replace the Espada Cemetery in the Barrio de San Lázaro.
Named after the famous explorer Christopher Columbus, this cemetery is known for its architectural brilliance and elaborate memorials. With over 500 major mausoleums, it is a sight to behold.
Before the Espada Cemetery and the Colon Cemetery were built, the people of Havana buried their loved ones in crypts located at various churches throughout the city, such as the Havana Cathedral and the Church Crypts in Havana Vieja.
Today, the Colon Cemetery stands as a grand tribute to the rich history and culture of Havana, attracting visitors from all over the world who come to appreciate its grandeur.
